Bad gas mileage

I usually keep track of my gas mileage quite closely, although I don’t worry about it too much when I’m racing.  My car has more than enough torque to haul around a full tank of gas, so I generally fill up the day before or the morning of a race.

I filled up on Friday at a full service gas station in Coquitlam.  I didn’t have a choice since Coquitlam requires all gas stations to be full service to help youth employment.

So on Sunday I’m racing, and I realize that my car smells like gas… not so good.  I look under the hood, nothing wrong, then I find the problem: the gas cap was cross-threaded and gas was spilling out the tank.

  • Cost for a fill Friday night: $27.00
  • Cost for a fill Monday morning: $31.00

:(
But on the bright side, it was an amazing day for racing, slightly overcast, but reasonable temperature, and I dropped about 2 seconds every run.  It still didn’t bring me close to FTD but it was a lot of fun anyway.
