Telus using Wikipedia for news
It’s not entirely clear if the links are provided by the Canadian Press, or by Telus, there is an article aboutHans Island, currently being disputed by the Danish and Canadian government on the Telus website. It contains links to Wikipedia, and even an image courtesy of Wikipedia.
This is interesting for two reasons:
* Telus is using images that are under a GNU Free Documentation License, rather than photos from a MSM source. I’m sure this will continue, and I can’t wait to see a FDL or Creative Commons Licensed photo make it into a newspaper.
* Wikipedia is starting to become a legitimate source of information, even for the mainstream media. I hope that this continues to happen. There is a risk that Telus is taking, since someone could edit it from under their noses. However, it also means that Wikipedia will have more eyeballs on their site that can be editing, correcting, and adding information.
