Gmail: Sending messages from a different address

GMail keeps getting better, now they allow you to send email that looks like it came from another address. But wait! you say, this will lead to people forging email addresses! There is an important step that you need to follow,
email verification.

I wonder how long it will take for a spammer to exploit this loophole. It may be possible to trick someone to reply to the authorization email from your GMail account. I haven’t set up any other email addresses through GMail so it may not be possible. We’ll see.

Google AdSense

In an effort to subsidize my net connection, I’ve put Google Ads up on my site. Very easy to set up, and I’ll have to keep an eye on what kind of revenue I’m pulling in.

Not much I’m sure, but I have plans to get more traffic…

Nifty Corners

There is a most excellent page called Nifty Corners that uses CSS and Javascript to create rounded elements for your web pages.

I’ve found it useful, but I had to change one thing in the Javascript to satisfy me. The problem is that errors occur if you try to round corners on an element that doesn’t exist. The result is that any further elements do not get rounded. This doesn’t work well if you are using the rounded corners on a large website that may not have all of the elements on every page.

Here is the changed nifty.js file. I’m no Javascript expert, but it works in Firefox and IE, so I’m satisfied. :)
I also added a right aligned tab class to the roundedPage.css file:

ul#navright,ul#navright li{list-style-type:none;margin:0;padding:0}
ul#navright{padding-left:15px}
ul#navright li{float:right;width:90px;margin-right:2px;text-align: center}
ul#navright a{float:right;width:90px;text-decoration:none;background: #FFC;color: #999}
ul#navright li.active a,ul#navright a:hover
{color: #000;}

and of course you need to add it to final.js to round the corners.

Telus using Wikipedia for news

It’s not entirely clear if the links are provided by the Canadian Press, or by Telus, there is an article aboutHans Island, currently being disputed by the Danish and Canadian government on the Telus website. It contains links to Wikipedia, and even an image courtesy of Wikipedia.

This is interesting for two reasons:

* Telus is using images that are under a GNU Free Documentation License, rather than photos from a MSM source. I’m sure this will continue, and I can’t wait to see a FDL or Creative Commons Licensed photo make it into a newspaper.
* Wikipedia is starting to become a legitimate source of information, even for the mainstream media. I hope that this continues to happen. There is a risk that Telus is taking, since someone could edit it from under their noses. However, it also means that Wikipedia will have more eyeballs on their site that can be editing, correcting, and adding information.

Stop Prostituting Yourself for Help Moving - Toyota Pick Up Truck

Found this great ad on vancouver.craigslist.org:

1993 Toyota Ext Cab 4×4. We have moved about 4 times since we met, and god knows he moved at least that many times before me. Short distances only of course. He has taken really good care of it for more than 7 years (second owner) and so it pains him to let me drive it. I am perhaps a less… focused? driver than he would like behind the wheel. Happily I have a bus pass, so my time behind the wheel is limited.

Now we’re in a house. If we move again it will be because of the rapture, and I understand Jesus takes care of the details for that one.

So now it’s your turn. Own this dreamy, green pick-up truck (he would die if he saw this ad - let’s agree to tell him you read about it in the buy and sell). This is a great deal and we’re very open to considering better deals for the right buyer.

Email for pics.

Fireworks

Last night, we had dinner at Mike’s and then went to see his Capoeira demonstration. We stayed to watch China’s fireworks demonstration. It was great, I loved the happy faces, and the finale was amazing.

Apparently we walked 4.7km each way.
